Privacy Policy

Our commitment

Proven Listings is committed to protecting the privacy of the people who read this site. This policy describes what the Site collects, what it deliberately does not collect, and what happens to it. It applies to provenlistings.com and its subdomains.

No cookies on public pages

No public page on this site sets a cookie of any kind. There is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to: no analytics cookie, no advertising cookie, no preference cookie, and no cookie recording which language you read the site in. The software enforces this rather than merely intending it: a cookie emitted on a public response is stripped and reported as an error.

One cookie exists on the administrative subdomain, for the person who signs in to operate the Site. It is scoped to that host by construction and a browser cannot send it to the public site.

What is recorded when a page is viewed

The Site keeps its own measurements, on its own servers, rather than sending readers to a third-party analytics service. When a page is viewed, a small script sends the path of the page, the referring website's host name, and any campaign parameters in the address.

The internet address of the request is used for two things and then discarded: a coarse location lookup, which records a country and a province or state, and the calculation of a one-way anonymised identifier. That identifier is a digest of the date, the internet address, the browser's identification string, and a secret held on the server. Because the date is part of it, it changes every day by construction. No record in the Site's measurements contains an internet address, and there is no identifier that persists from one day to the next.

The same script records when a reader follows a telephone link or a link to another website, so that a listed business can be shown how much interest its listing produced. It records that the click happened and the page it happened on, and nothing about the reader.

These records are used to report traffic to listed businesses and to understand which pages are read, including by AI assistants and their crawlers. They are not sold, and they are not combined with anything else. No fixed deletion schedule is set for them today, because they contain no identifier that outlives a single day.

Delivery and security

The Site is delivered through Cloudflare, which serves it from locations close to the reader and protects it from attack. Cloudflare processes each request, including the internet address it came from, in order to do that, and adds its own page-performance measurement script. Cloudflare's handling of that data is governed by Cloudflare's own terms, not by this policy.

The two forms

The Site has two forms: the contact form and the review form on a listing page. Both are protected by a human-check widget provided by Cloudflare. That widget is the only thing on this site loaded from a third party, and it is fetched only when a reader touches one of those forms. A reader who never uses a form never loads it. When it does run, Cloudflare receives the internet address and browser information needed to perform the check.

A contact message stores the name, the email address, and the message text you submit, together with the time it was received. It is kept so that it can be read and answered. The email address is never published.

A review stores the name, the email address, the rating, and the text you submit. The name and the review text are published if the review is approved. The email address is never published; it is kept so that the reviewer can be reached if the business disputes what the review says.

Information about listed businesses

The Site publishes business information: the operating name, the community, a phone number and website where the business publishes them, the services it offers, and the record of what was checked, against which source, and when. That information is business information, drawn from public sources, from the business itself, and from the issuers of the credentials cited. Where a listing names a person, it is because the source cited names that person in a business capacity.

If a business believes something published about it is wrong, the correction channel is the contact form, and corrections are acknowledged within five business days.

Disclosure

Proven Listings will not disclose personal information to any outside party without the prior consent of the person concerned, except where disclosure is required by law.

Access and correction

To ask what personal information the Site holds about you, to have it corrected, or to ask for a review or a contact message to be deleted, write through the contact form. Note that the Site's traffic measurements contain no identifier that can be matched to a person, so there is nothing in them to retrieve or delete on request.

Other websites

This site links to websites operated by others. We encourage you to read the privacy statements of those sites, as their practices may differ from ours.

Changes to this policy

Any substantial change to this privacy policy will be posted on this page.
