How ProvenListings verifies a business
Every listed business is checked against a real-world source before it earns a badge. The badge names the source and the date it was checked. Nothing on this site is verified by a business telling us it is good.
The sources we check
- Manufacturer dealer programs. The brand's own dealer locator, which shows an active authorized dealer relationship. Rechecked every six months.
- WorkSafeNB clearance. Registered employer in good standing for workers compensation. Rechecked every six months.
- NB electrical contractor licence. Licensed for the electrical work an installation requires. Documentation reviewed, and a sample confirmed with the issuer. Rechecked every twelve months.
- Refrigeration and air conditioning certification. A certified tradesperson on staff in a trade that is compulsory in New Brunswick. Rechecked every twelve months.
- Corporate registry. The business legally exists under the name it trades as. Rechecked every twelve months.
The bar a badge has to clear
A registry record plus at least one independent source. A registry record on its own is not a badge, because existing is not the same as being qualified. Having spoken to us is never a badge on its own; that is what auto-generated directories call verification, and it never earns ours.
The wording on a badge is exact. "Dealer locator" means we read the manufacturer's own listing. "Documentation reviewed" means we read a document the business sent. "Confirmed with issuer" means the body that issued it told us directly. Those three are different claims and we never blur them.
Expiry, and listings without a badge
Every check carries a date for the next one. When that date passes without a recheck, the badge drops automatically and the listing stays published, unbadged, until we check again. A business we could not confirm is still listed, still unbadged, with the reason on file. Coverage and verification are separate promises and we keep them separately.
What a badge does not mean
A badge means the named source confirmed the named fact on the stated date. It is not an endorsement, not a guarantee of workmanship, price, or availability, and not a government approval. Homeowners should still get multiple quotes.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, tell us and we will fix it or explain why we disagree. [email protected]. We acknowledge corrections within five business days. Rechecks are free, they are never contingent on paying us for anything, and payment never influences a verification outcome.
